Maruyama Park, opened in 1886, is Kyoto's oldest public park, sitting just behind Yasaka Shrine at the foot of the Higashiyama hills. Free to enter and centered on a strolling-style Japanese garden, it holds around 680 cherry trees and is Kyoto's most beloved hanami spot. Its icon is the towering weeping cherry at the park's heart, known as the 'Weeping Cherry of Gion' (Gion no yozakura).

Free admission, open 24 hours. About a 10-minute walk from Keihan Gion-Shijo Station, or take city bus 206 to the 'Gion' stop (roughly 3 min on foot). During blossom season (e.g., Apr 25–May 6, 2026), temporary toilets and security patrols run 9 AM–7 PM. Check the official site for the latest hours, fees, and illumination schedule before visiting.
