Tram 28 (Eléctrico 28) is Lisbon's iconic yellow streetcar, running roughly 7km from Martim Moniz to Campo de Ourique (Prazeres) aboard vintage 'Remodelado' cars built in the 1930s. SafetyThis is one of Europe's top pickpocket hotspots. Organised teams work the crowded cars and doorways targeting phones and wallets; wear your bag on the front and stay alert when the tram stops and doors open.
SeasonIn peak summer (July–August) and between 10:00 and 17:00 it is jammed—you may queue over an hour or fail to board. Ride early morning (6–8am) or late evening (after 9pm) for a far calmer experience.
RulesLoad a Navegante/Viva Viagem card before boarding for a cheaper fare, and always tag your card on board—fare inspectors issue fines if you have no valid ticket or tap.
MannersThe car is tiny (about 20 seats) and locals use it for commuting. Avoid large suitcases and bulky backpacks that block the aisle, and move inward when it is crowded to let others pass.
CautionBeware of people posing as plainclothes police or inspectors asking to 'check' your wallet—never hand it over; ask to go to the nearest police station. Always confirm current fares, hours and rules from official sources.

A card fare is about €1.90, cash on board €3.30, a 24-hour pass around €7.25, and it's free with the Lisboa Card (verify latest prices and times). First tram around 5:40 (about 6:45 on Sundays/holidays), last around 23:30, every 10–15 minutes.
