🇵🇹 Castelo de São Jorge (St. George's Castle)

Castelo de São Jorge · 리스본

Location

Overview

Castelo de São Jorge crowns Lisbon's highest hill, a Moorish-era fortress layered with more than eight centuries of Portuguese history. Captured from the Moors by Portugal's first king, Afonso Henriques, in 1147, it was later named after St. George following the 1373 Anglo-Portuguese treaty. Today it is beloved as a panoramic terrace surveying the city's terracotta rooftops and the sweep of the Tagus estuary.
