Overview
Miradouro da Senhora do Monte is a free public viewpoint atop Graça hill, the highest point in central Lisbon, offering a roughly 250-degree panorama over the Baixa district, São Jorge Castle and the Tagus (Tejo) estuary. Facing west, it is a favourite spot for watching the sunset and the city lights come on. Beside it stands a small white Baroque chapel (Nossa Senhora do Monte), which is usually closed.

Good to know
CautionTram 28, the usual way up, is Lisbon's single highest-risk route for pickpockets. Thieves jostle passengers in crowds to lift wallets and phones, so wear your bag on the front and keep valuables in a zipped inside pocket.
CautionIn central Lisbon, street sellers may approach offering sunglasses or whisper 'hashish/cocaine'; these are often fakes (bay leaves, flour) sold at inflated prices. Ignore them and keep walking.
SafetyRua da Senhora do Monte is a very steep uphill road. Wear comfortable shoes for the slippery cobbles, and stay aware of your surroundings if visiting after dark, as lighting is limited.
RulesThe adjoining chapel is almost always closed and only occasionally opens for a couple of hours in the afternoon. Don't count on entry; check the latest information when you visit.
CautionThere are no cafés or bars on site; pop-up stalls sell drinks to tourists at inflated prices. It's cheaper to buy snacks and drinks beforehand at the nearby Pingo Doce supermarket (about 300 m away).
MannersAt sunset the viewpoint gets very crowded with tourists and tuk-tuks. Don't monopolise benches or the railing, and keep noise and litter down as this is a quiet residential area.
Practical info
Free entry, open 24/7. Take tram 28E to Rua da Graça, then walk about 400 m (5-10 min) up a steep hill. Best visited early morning for calm, or in winter for a sunset over the Tagus estuary. Confirm fees, hours and chapel opening close to your visit.
