🇬🇧 Trafalgar Square

Trafalgar Square · 런던 웨스트민스터

Location

Overview

Trafalgar Square is one of central London's most iconic public spaces, in the heart of Westminster, opened in 1844 to commemorate the 1805 Battle of Trafalgar and Admiral Lord Nelson. It brings together Nelson's Column and its bronze lions, two fountains, and the free-entry National Gallery on its north side, and is famous for the Fourth Plinth's rotating programme of contemporary art. In 2026 it remains the stage for civic celebrations and gatherings—Chinese New Year, Diwali, the annual Norwegian Christmas tree—and in September a new Fourth Plinth work, 'Lady in Blue' by Tschabalala Self, is due to be installed. With no admission charge and open access at any hour, it is an ideal starting point for exploring London's galleries and West End theatre district.
