Overview
The Port Wine Cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia are a cluster of aging lodges (caves) on the south bank of the Douro, directly across the river from central Porto. For centuries, Port wine coming down the Douro was aged here, and today a dozen or more historic houses, such as Cálem, Sandeman, Ferreira and Kopke, line the waterfront, most offering guided tours with tastings. They sit just a short walk across the Dom Luís I Bridge from Porto's Ribeira, making them a must-do on any Porto trip.
