Taipei 101 is a 508 m, 101-story skyscraper in Taipei's Xinyi District that was the world's tallest building when it opened in 2004. Its 89th-floor indoor deck, 91st-floor open-air terrace, and the 460 m open-air 'Skyline 460' platform offer 360-degree views of the city and surrounding mountains. SeasonThe open-air decks (91F and 101F) close or lose visibility during typhoons, heavy rain, and thick haze. Aim for a clear day, ideally around sunset, and check the weather before you go.
CautionSome taxis, especially at the airport or busy areas, refuse the meter and quote inflated flat fares (e.g. 500-800 NT for a 200 NT ride). Insist on the meter ('yong biao'), use Uber or the Taiwan Taxi app, and track the route on a map app.
RulesEating, drinking (even water), and chewing gum are banned inside MRT stations and trains, with fines up to NT$7,500.
SafetyPickpocketing is reported in crowded spots like Taipei Main Station and busy ticket lines. Wear a cross-body bag in front and keep your phone and wallet out of back pockets.
MannersKeep your voice down and avoid phone calls on the MRT and buses, and leave the priority seats (bo'ai seats) free. Let passengers exit before boarding and queue in an orderly line.
SeasonDuring Lunar New Year (eve around Feb 16 in 2026) the mall and observatory may run shorter hours, and the observatory and restaurants are extremely crowded around the countdown. Confirm official hours before visiting.
Practical info
Take the MRT Tamsui-Xinyi (Red) Line to Taipei 101/World Trade Center Station, Exit 4, about a 1-minute walk. Standard observatory ticket is around NT$600 (floors 88/89/91); the Skyline 460 combo is about NT$980. Full-price tickets are easy to book online; concession tickets (senior/child) are sold at the on-site counter. Hours are roughly Sun-Thu 11:00-21:30 and Fri/Sat/pre-holiday 11:00-22:00, and from July 1, 2026 the ticket counter and entrance are temporarily moved to the 1st floor of the office tower. Reconfirm prices, hours, and rules on the official site just before your visit.
