🇮🇹 Piazza del Popolo

Piazza del Popolo · 로마

Location

Overview

Piazza del Popolo is a grand elliptical square just inside Rome's northern gate (Porta del Popolo), historically the first threshold pilgrims and travelers crossed on entering the city. At its center stands the roughly 24 m Flaminio Obelisk, brought from Egypt by Emperor Augustus, while three streets fan out to the south framed by a pair of symmetrical 'twin churches.' The square is free to enter and most visitors spend 30 minutes to an hour here.
