Location

Overview

Palazzo Vecchio is the fortress-like medieval town hall dominating Piazza della Signoria at the heart of Florence, begun in the late 13th century by Arnolfo di Cambio and still the seat of the city council today. Its stars are the vast Hall of the Five Hundred (Salone dei Cinquecento) frescoed by Vasari, the tiny Studiolo of Francesco I, and the 94 m Arnolfo Tower. The square in front is an open-air sculpture gallery with a David replica and the statues of the Loggia dei Lanzi.
