🇫🇮 Oodi Helsinki Central Library

Oodi – Helsingin keskustakirjasto · 헬싱키

Location

Overview

Oodi is Helsinki's Central Library, opened in December 2018 to mark the centenary of Finnish independence, and it serves as the city's 'living room' on Kansalaistori Square directly opposite the Parliament House. Designed by ALA Architects with an undulating spruce-wood facade set against glass and steel, it was named the world's 'Public Library of the Year' by IFLA in 2019. As of 2026 entry remains completely free, and even without borrowing a book you can use its 3D printers, recording studios and cinema, or simply relax in the top-floor reading hall with sweeping views of Parliament — making it far more than an ordinary library.
