Location

Overview

Esplanadi Park (Finnish Esplanadin puisto, nicknamed 'Espa') is a long, narrow city-centre park running between Helsinki's Market Square (Kauppatori) and Erottaja square, and is often called Finland's most famous park and the green heart of Helsinki. Laid out to plans by architect Carl Ludvig Engel, it holds the statue of national poet Johan Ludvig Runeberg (1885), the first public monument ever erected in Helsinki. In summer 2026 the park's open-air Espa Stage (Espan lava) again hosts around 300 free performances from mid-May through the end of August, making it the city's liveliest downtown spot. Flanked by upscale shopping streets and the 1867 Kappeli restaurant, it frames a visit that combines strolling, culture and people-watching in one place.
