Temppeliaukio Church, better known as the Rock Church, is a Lutheran church carved directly into a granite outcrop in Helsinki's Töölö district, designed by architect brothers Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen and opened in 1969. Its exposed natural rock walls, a copper dome about 13 m across wound with roughly 24 km of copper strip, and 180 skylights ringing the dome give it remarkable natural light and acclaimed acoustics that make it one of Helsinki's signature landmarks and a favourite concert venue. In 2026 it remains a working parish church as well as one of the city's most visited sights, with an adult visitor fee of around €8 (confirm latest) and sightseeing suspended during services and ceremonies.

RulesSightseeing stops during Sunday worship, weddings, christenings and funerals. Ticket sales and entry close about 10 minutes before closing, and opening hours change week to week, so check the official website before you go.
MannersThis is an active church. Keep your voice low, silence your phone, and do not photograph, walk around or disturb worshippers during services.
SeasonIn June–July long, bright near-white-night days and the cruise-ship high season mean midday queues; arrive right at opening. Note that the aurora is only visible in the far north in winter, not in Helsinki in summer.
SafetyHelsinki is generally very safe, but watch for pickpockets around busy sights, trams and the central station in high season, and wear grippy footwear in winter when the approach can be icy.
