Meriken Park is a waterfront park in the port district of Kobe, Hyogo, Japan, created in 1987 by reclaiming land between the former Meriken Wharf and Naka Pier. It brings together Kobe's icons in one spot: the red Kobe Port Tower, the Kobe Maritime Museum with its white sail-like steel roof, and the white 'BE KOBE' monument. The plaza itself is open 24 hours and free to enter, and it is loved for sea-and-sky views by day and an illuminated harbor nightscape after dark.

SafetyThe preserved wharf at the memorial is a real earthquake-damaged structure that is tilted and cracked. Stay on the maintained walkway and keep children away from the railings and the water's edge.
MannersThe 'BE KOBE' monument is a top photo spot, so queues form on weekends and during events. Wait your turn and avoid climbing on it or monopolizing it for long shoots.
