Amerika-mura ('Amemura') is the heart of youth culture and street fashion in Osaka's Minami, spread across the area west of Shinsaibashi. It grew from the early 1970s when shops selling U.S. West Coast-style vintage clothing, records and surf gear gathered here, and today packs some 2,500 stores around Triangle Park. Often called Osaka's answer to Tokyo's Harajuku, it is busiest and most colorful on weekends.

SafetyThe area is crowded and generally safe by day, but its atmosphere changes at night (especially after 9pm). Take extra care with late-night visits, particularly if you are alone.
CautionStreet touts ('catch sales') operate here, trying to lead you into bars and then charging hidden fees. Firmly decline hard sells and do not follow strangers into venues.
CautionAround midnight, unlicensed taxi touts may appear near club exits. Use only official taxis or public transport.
SafetyWatch your belongings in the crowded lanes; carry bags (including backpacks) on your front, and never accept drinks from strangers.
MannersThe narrow streets and Triangle Park stay packed. Don't stop in the middle of the lane to photograph, and take your trash with you or use designated bins.
Practical info
About a 3-minute walk from Shinsaibashi Station (Osaka Metro Midosuji / Nagahori Tsurumi-ryokuchi lines) or Yotsubashi Station (Yotsubashi line). The district is free to wander at any hour with no admission fee; individual shops and complexes like BIG STEP generally open around 11am, but confirm current hours. There is a police box (koban) by Triangle Park if you need help.
