🇵🇱 Royal Castle, Warsaw

Zamek Królewski w Warszawie · 바르샤바

Location

Overview

The Royal Castle (Zamek Królewski) stands on Castle Square (Plac Zamkowy) at the entrance to Warsaw's Old Town, on the Vistula escarpment. Long the residence of Polish monarchs and the seat of the Sejm (parliament), it is one of the nation's most symbolic buildings. Almost completely destroyed by the Germans during World War II, it was rebuilt between 1971 and 1988 through nationwide public donations and is part of the UNESCO-listed Historic Centre of Warsaw — a powerful emblem of a city risen from the ashes. As of 2026 the royal apartments, Throne Room, the Canaletto Room and temporary exhibitions are open to visitors, best enjoyed as a walk through opulent interiors paired with the story of the castle's reconstruction.
