Rising over the east side of Prague's Old Town Square, the Church of Our Lady before Týn is the Gothic landmark whose two 80-metre spires define the city's medieval skyline, built from the mid-14th to the early 16th century as the main church of the Old Town. Once a stronghold of the Hussite reformers, it holds the tomb of the astronomer Tycho Brahe and the oldest pipe organ in Prague. It remains an active Roman Catholic parish where Mass is celebrated. Note that in July–August 2026 regular services are suspended for restoration work, so confirm the latest access before you visit.

RulesThe entrance is not on the square itself — you reach it through a narrow passage at Staroměstské náměstí 14. The church is closed on Mondays and often shuts around midday (about 13:00–15:00), so aim for a morning or late-afternoon visit.
SeasonIn July–August 2026 regular Mass is suspended for restoration and interior opening times can be irregular; check the official site tyn.cz before you go.
MannersThis is a living place of worship — dress modestly (cover shoulders and knees), stay quiet, remove hats, and refrain from photography during services.
