Tivoli Gardens is a pleasure garden and amusement park in central Copenhagen that opened in 1843, making it one of the world's oldest operating amusement parks (second only to nearby Bakken). It is famous less for extreme thrills than for its romantic blend of rides, flower gardens, thousands of evening lights and free concerts — an atmosphere that famously inspired Hans Christian Andersen and Walt Disney. As of 2026 it still runs on a seasonal calendar (summer, Halloween and Christmas), so the park looks completely different depending on when you go. Sitting right beside Copenhagen Central Station, it slots easily into a half- or full-day in the city.

SeasonThe park is seasonal and closes between seasons. Summer runs roughly from spring to late September, followed by Halloween (early October to early November) and Christmas (mid-November to early January, closed 24 December). SeasonCopenhagen summers stay light until around 10 pm, but evenings turn cool and rain is common — bring a light jacket and rain layer even in July. Note the city is not far enough north for the midnight sun or aurora, so set expectations accordingly.
RulesEntrance and the ride pass are sold separately. You need a ride pass on top of admission to go on the rides, and thrill rides have height limits, so check before queueing with children. Booking online helps on busy days.
