Location

Overview

The Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek is Copenhagen's museum of art and sculpture, opened in 1897 and built around the private collection of Carl Jacobsen (1842-1914), son of the Carlsberg brewery founder. Its more than 10,000 works range from Egyptian, Greek, Roman and Etruscan antiquities to French Impressionists such as Monet, Cezanne, van Gogh and Degas, plus one of the world's finest Gauguin holdings (40+ works) and the largest Rodin collection outside France - all crowned by the glass-domed Winter Garden with its palms and fountain. From week 16 (mid-April) until 1 October 2026 the museum is rearranging its Greek and Roman Sculpture collection, so some galleries may be closed or objects temporarily unavailable - worth checking before you go. As an elegant, rarely-crowded indoor destination, it makes an ideal half-day stop, especially when Copenhagen's weather turns changeable.
