Location

Overview

Sindang-dong Tteokbokki Town is a roughly 100-meter food alley near Sindang Station in central Seoul, said to trace back to 1953 when Grandma Ma Bok-rim began selling gochujang-based tteokbokki here. It is famous as the birthplace of 'instant' (broth-style) tteokbokki, where a pan of rice cakes, ramyeon, fish cake, vegetables and sauce is cooked right at your table. The alley was designated a Seoul food-culture street in 2013 and has drawn fresh attention alongside the nearby 'Hipdang-dong' cafe and design scene.
