서울로7017 (Seoullo 7017) · 서울 중구

Location

Overview

Seoullo 7017 is an elevated pedestrian garden that opened on 20 May 2017, created by Dutch firm MVRDV from a disused 1970 highway overpass beside Seoul Station. Roughly 1 km long and about 17 m above the street, the walkway is lined with hundreds of plant species in round concrete planters and is often compared to New York's High Line. The '70' marks the year the flyover opened and the '17' its 2017 reopening and its 17 connecting ramps.

Practical info

Directly linked to Seoul Station (Subway Lines 1, 4 and the Airport Railroad) or Hoehyeon Station Exit 5 (Line 4) on foot. Entry is free, and cooler evenings or nights are pleasant for walking. There is little shade, so bring a hat, water or sun umbrella in summer and warm layers in winter, and wear comfortable shoes. Check fees, hours and events on Seoul's official guide before visiting.
