Osaka Castle is the city's iconic fortress, first built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1583; today's main keep (tenshukaku) is a 1931 ferroconcrete reconstruction that houses a history museum. Its floors present exhibits on Hideyoshi and the castle's turbulent past, and the 8th-floor observation deck offers sweeping views over central Osaka. The keep sits within Osaka Castle Park, a roughly 105.6-hectare green space famed for its moats, colossal stone walls, and cherry and plum blossoms.

RulesPhotography is prohibited around the Important Cultural Property exhibits on the 3rd and 4th floors of the keep; follow posted signs.
RulesThe elevator usually serves only floors 1-5, so reaching the 8th-floor observation deck requires climbing the remaining stairs. Plan ahead if you have mobility limits.
SeasonDuring cherry blossom season (late March to mid-April), ticket lines can exceed 30 minutes and the elevator wait can top 40 minutes. Buying a QR ticket online lets you skip the ticket queue.
SafetyIt is a 15-20 minute walk across the park from the nearest station to the keep. In summer, bring water and a hat as shade is limited along the route.
MannersNishinomaru Garden is a separate paid area with its own hours (including evening cherry-blossom viewing in spring); don't confuse it with the free areas of the park.
CautionBuy tickets only at the official on-site booth or official online channels. Avoid unofficial resellers offering 'skip-the-line' tickets or aggressive guide touts near the grounds.

Main keep open 9:00-18:00 (last entry 17:30), closed Dec 28-Jan 1. Admission: adults 1,200 yen; high school/university students 600 yen (ID required); junior high and younger free. The park is free and open at all times. About a 15-20 minute walk from Osaka Metro Tanimachi 4-chome/Morinomiya or JR Osakajokoen stations. Confirm current fees and hours on the official site before visiting.
