🇲🇦 Marrakech Souks (Souk Semmarine)

أسواق مراكش (سوق السمارين) · 마라케시

Location

Overview

The Marrakech souks are the labyrinth of covered market lanes fanning out north from Jemaa el-Fnaa, the beating heart of the old medina; Souk Semmarine is the widest, busiest spine and usually a visitor's first taste of the maze. Trades cluster by quarter — leather, metalwork, carpets, spices and crafts — making the souks Marrakech's signature experience within a UNESCO World Heritage medina. After the September 2023 earthquake, restoration has advanced, and by 2026 the square and main souks are fully operational with tourism recovered. Come with time to spare and treat the haggling and getting-a-little-lost as part of the appeal.

Practical info

The souks begin immediately north of Jemaa el-Fnaa; the medina is largely pedestrianised, so reach the square on foot or by petit taxi (about 15-20 minutes from the airport). Entry is free and stalls run roughly 9:30-19:00, but hours vary widely by shop and weekday, so confirm current opening times and any guide fees before you go.
