The Sukiennice (Cloth Hall) is a Renaissance trading hall standing at the very centre of Kraków's Main Market Square (Rynek Główny), the largest medieval town square in Europe and the heart of the Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1978. Rooted in a 13th-century cloth market and rebuilt in Renaissance style in 1556–1559 after a fire, it is famous for its ornate roofline of grotesque mascarons and its arcaded loggias. As of 2026 the ground-floor arcade still runs as a bustling market of amber jewellery, wood carvings and folk crafts, while the upper floor houses the National Museum's Gallery of 19th-Century Polish Art, so shopping and fine art sit under one roof.
