Completed in 1914, Jeondong Catholic Cathedral is the Honam region's first Romanesque Western-style building, distinguished by its graceful bell towers of red brick and granite. It stands on the site where Korea's first Catholic martyrs, Paul Yun Ji-chung and James Kwon Sang-yeon, were executed in 1791, and was begun by French missionary Father Baudounet to mark the martyrdom's centennial. Located at the entrance of Jeonju Hanok Village, directly across from Gyeonggijeon, it is one of the area's signature landmarks.
