🇩🇪 Hofbräuhaus Munich

Hofbräuhaus am Platzl · 뮌헨

Location

Overview

The Hofbräuhaus am Platzl is the world's most famous Munich beer hall, founded in 1589 as the Bavarian royal court brewery and opened to the public in 1828. Set in the heart of the Old Town, a five-minute walk from Marienplatz, it embodies Bavarian beer culture beneath the baroque frescoed ceiling of its ground-floor hall, the 'Schwemme,' where a brass (oompah) band plays and house Helles and Dunkles are served in one-litre 'Maß' mugs. As of 2026 it remains open every day with no entrance fee, so it works both as a sightseeing stop and a living slice of local culture. Even a single beer is enough to soak up the atmosphere, no meal required.
