Hồ Hoàn Kiếm · 하노이

Location

Overview

Hoan Kiem Lake (the 'Lake of the Returned Sword') is a roughly 12-hectare freshwater lake in the heart of Hanoi's Old Quarter and the symbolic soul of the city. Its name comes from the legend of Emperor Le Loi, who returned a magical sword to a golden turtle god after defeating the Ming invaders. Ringed by the Turtle Tower, the crimson The Huc Bridge, and Ngoc Son Temple, it is a favorite spot for strolling, people-watching, and orienting yourself before exploring the surrounding streets.
