Haneul Park ("Sky Park") is a roughly 98m-high hilltop park in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, created for the 2002 FIFA World Cup by transforming the former Nanjido landfill into a thriving ecological park. It is famous for its vast fields of silver grass (eulalia) and sweeping views of the Seoul skyline and the Han River, especially at sunset. One of the five World Cup Parks, it hosts the Seoul Silver Grass Festival each October.

Good to know
SeasonClosing time changes significantly with the season (sunset). In winter (roughly Dec-Feb) the park closes as early as around 6 PM, while in other seasons it stays open until roughly 8-10 PM. Always check the latest hours before you go.
SafetyThe summit is an open hilltop with little shade or wind cover. Winds are often very strong; it can be scorching in summer and bitterly cold with sharp wind chill in winter, so bring a hat, windproof layer, and sun protection.
RulesThe silver-grass fields are a protected ecological zone. Do not pick the grass or step off the paths into the fields — take photos only from the designated trails.
MannersThere are few shops or facilities and a real distance to the top, so bring your own water and snacks and carry your trash back out with you.
SafetyDuring the October Silver Grass Festival the park gets very crowded, with long queues for the stairs and the shuttle. For a quieter visit, aim for a weekday or an early hour a few days before the festival.
Practical info
From World Cup Stadium Station (Subway Line 6), Exit 1, it's about a 10-minute walk. From the park entrance, reach the summit via the 291 stairs, the 1.4km hilly road, or the 'Maenggkongi' electric shuttle (one-way 2,000 won / round-trip 3,000 won, cheaper for children). Entry is free. For sunset and night views, arrive 30-60 minutes before sunset. Confirm current fees and hours.
