Fløyen is the most accessible of Bergen's 'Seven Mountains', rising directly behind the city centre to about 320 metres above sea level. From a lower station beside the downtown fish market, the Fløibanen funicular — running for more than a century — climbs to the summit viewpoint in roughly 6–8 minutes, opening up a sweeping panorama of Bergen, its fjord and surrounding islands. As of 2026 it operates normally and serves not only as a viewpoint but as a gateway to a troll forest, free-roaming goats, a large playground, a summit café and restaurant, and hiking routes that run along the Vidden plateau all the way to neighbouring Mount Ulriken. It suits both a quick ride up for the view and a half-day of trekking.

SafetyBergen is one of Europe's rainiest cities and mountain-top weather changes fast. Even in summer, bring a waterproof jacket and a light layer; the summit is exposed and windy, so keep warm.
SeasonIn June–July the sky barely darkens (near-white nights), which is great for late evening views — but at this latitude you cannot see the northern lights in summer. Aurora is a late-autumn-to-winter affair.
SeasonThe Vidden ridge route to Ulriken is prone to fog and strong wind even in summer, with little shelter along the way. Wear proper hiking boots and a windproof shell, carry water and snacks, and turn back to the viewpoint if the weather turns.
