🇪🇸 Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos (Castle of the Christian Monarchs), Córdoba

Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos · 코르도바 (Córdoba)

Location

Overview

A fortress-palace on the banks of the Guadalquivir, a short walk from the Mosque-Cathedral, begun in the 14th century by King Alfonso XI of Castile on the site of an earlier Islamic fortress. The Catholic Monarchs, Isabella and Ferdinand, used it as a base for their campaign to conquer Granada, and it is where Christopher Columbus first sought their backing for his voyage west. Its highlights are a hall lined with Roman mosaics, the old Arab baths, and terraced gardens of pools, fountains and orange trees.
