Yuntai Mountain (Yuntaishan) is a Taihang-range scenic area in Xiuwu County, Jiaozuo, Henan Province, China. It was among the first sites named a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2004 and is a national AAAAA attraction, made up of eleven scenic zones. Highlights include the red-sandstone Red Stone Gorge, the 314 m Yuntai Waterfall, and a valley of wild macaques set among dramatic canyons and rock formations.
Red Stone Gorge (Hongshixia): a narrow canyon of 1.4-billion-year-old red sandstone cliffs above jade-green pools and small waterfalls — the park's signature stretch, and extremely crowded in peak season.
Yuntai Waterfall (Yuntai Tianpu): a large fall promoted as China's tallest at 314 m; note the flow drops sharply outside the rainy season.
Phoenix Ridge glass skywalk: a clifftop glass-floored walkway with big views and a thrill factor; a separately priced section (confirm current fee on site).
Macaque Valley (Mihou Gu): home to wild Taihang macaques (a nationally protected species) that scramble along the cliffs.
Tanpu/Quanpu gorges: walkable valleys of chained streams, pools and cascades — 'a spring every three steps, a waterfall every five, a pool every ten.'

SeasonYuntai Waterfall is seasonal: flow peaks in the July–September rainy season and can be nearly dry at other times. Visit in the rainy season if the waterfall is your goal.
SafetyWild macaques in Macaque Valley may lunge for food, plastic bags or snacks. Don't carry food in transparent bags, don't feed them, and keep your distance to avoid bites or scratches (they're most active 9–11 AM).
SafetyGorge paths and the glass skywalk get slippery when wet. Wear a waterproof jacket and non-slip shoes; trousers and sneakers are safer than skirts. Skywalk sections may close in rain or high wind.
RulesRed Stone Gorge is narrow with one-way stretches and long entry queues in peak season. Arrive around 8 AM, and book lodging ahead on weekends and holidays.
CautionYour entrance ticket already includes the in-park shuttle bus, so ignore private-car touts or 'special entry' upsells demanding extra cash — use only official ticketing and shuttles. Prices vary by season, so verify the latest.
