Overview

Sri Lanka's premier wildlife reserve in the southeast, reckoned to have one of the world's highest leopard densities. The highlight is a jeep safari meeting leopards, elephants, crocodiles, buffalo and countless birds.

Good to know

SeasonIn the dry season (Feb–Jul) animals gather at water, making them easier to see; there is a wet-season closure around Sep–Oct — check.
RulesGetting out of the vehicle or approaching/feeding animals is banned — keep to speed limits and routes.
SafetyEarly-morning safaris are cold and dusty — bring warm clothes, a mask and water, and go with a licensed guide.
