🇨🇳 Wutong Mountain

梧桐山 · 선전

Location

Overview

Wutong Mountain (梧桐山) rises to 943.7 m on the border of Shenzhen's Luohu and Yantian districts, making it the city's highest point — nicknamed "the first peak of Pengcheng" — and it was designated a national-level scenic area in 2009. The roughly 31.82 km² massif holds three summits in a row: Big Wutong (943.7 m), Bean Curd Head, and Little Wutong (about 650 m, crowned by the Shenzhen TV Tower); on clear days the top looks out over the Shenzhen skyline, Hong Kong's New Territories, and Mirs Bay. Entry is free and no booking is needed to hike, which is still the case in 2026, and the mountain functions more as a locals' fitness ritual than a ticketed tourist site. Note that a hiker died of suspected heatstroke on the Xiutong Trail on 10 July 2026 during a high-temperature yellow warning, so in midsummer treat this as a serious hike with weather planning, not a casual sightseeing stop.

Practical info

Take Metro Line 2/8 (they run through as one service): Wutongshan South station exits A/D for the Lingyun Trail, Liantang station for the Dengyun Trail, Haishan station for the Bitong Trail, and Shenwai High School station for the Xiutong Trail; for the north gate and the Taishanjian route, buses 211 and M445 stop at Wutongshan terminus, about a five-minute walk away. Hiking is free with no booking required and the area is generally described as open from early morning until around 19:00 (sources differ on a 6:00 versus 7:00 start), but the car-entry reservation quota for the national forest park, weather-related closures, and Fairy Lake Botanical Garden's separate admission and booking policy all change frequently — confirm the latest details through official channels just before you visit.
