The Wonderland Trail circles Mount Rainier (4,392 m) — the largest single volcanic peak in the contiguous United States — entirely, running 150 km (93 miles) and offering views of the mountain from every direction. Most hikers complete it in 10–14 days, with roughly 6,700 m of cumulative elevation gain, making it steeper per mile than the John Muir Trail. The route passes through lowland old-growth forest, subalpine meadows, and glacier-fed terrain along the way.

Good to know
RulesNational Park Service backcountry permits are allocated by lottery and walk-up availability, with the application period opening around February and demand far exceeding supply.
SafetyGlacial meltwater streams rise sharply in the afternoon, so fording them is safer earlier in the day.
SeasonMid-July through early September is the prime window; outside this period, lingering snowpack and swollen streams make travel difficult.
·Resupply points along the route are limited, so plan food drops in advance at the few available spots, such as White River and Longmire.
