Overview

The War Memorial of Korea opened in 1994 on the former Army Headquarters site in Yongsan, Seoul, and traces the nation's military history—from ancient kingdoms through the Korean War and the Vietnam deployment—across seven indoor halls with roughly 6,300 artifacts. Its expansive outdoor park displays more than 100 large weapons, including tanks, fighter jets, helicopters and missiles, some open for hands-on exploration. Admission is free and it sits close to Itaewon and Samgakji, making it an easy add to any Seoul itinerary.

About a 5-minute walk from Samgakji Station (Lines 4 & 6), Exit 12. Free regular Korean commentary and English guided tours run roughly twice a day; hours are 09:30-18:00 (last entry 17:00, closed Mondays). Allow 2-3 hours to see the full site.
