🇮🇹 Vernazza (Cinque Terre)

Vernazza, Cinque Terre · 친퀘테레

Location

Overview

Vernazza is the only one of Cinque Terre's five Ligurian villages with a natural harbor, and many travelers consider it the most picturesque. Pastel houses rise straight from the water, crowned by the harborside Doria Castle and the octagonal bell tower of the Church of Santa Margherita d'Antiochia. A UNESCO World Heritage area, it combines coastal hiking, swimming, and wandering narrow lanes in one compact village.

Practical info

Local trains from La Spezia or Levanto reach Vernazza in minutes, and a single Cinque Terre card covers trains, trails, and village shuttles. Peak summer (July–August) is very crowded; visit in May–June or September, and early morning or evening, for fewer people.
