Trümmelbach Falls is a chain of ten glacier-fed waterfalls hidden inside the mountain in the Lauterbrunnen Valley — billed as the largest subterranean waterfalls in Europe. Meltwater from the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau thunders through the rock at up to 20,000 litres per second, and the site lies within the UNESCO Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch World Heritage region. In 2026 it still runs seasonally from around early April to early November, with a tunnel lift built into the mountain plus stairways and railed galleries bringing you right up to the cascades. It makes an easy roughly one-hour stop while you explore Lauterbrunnen.

SafetyInside the gorge the stairs and walkways stay wet and slippery from spray and it's cool even in midsummer — bring grippy shoes and a light waterproof layer.

RulesFor safety, dogs, children under 4 and strollers/prams are not allowed. Tickets are normally bought on site (check current card acceptance), and while the PostBus may be covered by the Swiss Travel Pass, entry to the falls is generally separate — verify the latest.
MannersStairs and platforms are narrow and flow largely one-way, so keep photo stops short and move on for those behind you; pack out any litter at this natural-heritage site.
CautionNo advance booking is needed, yet some third-party sites resell 'skip-the-wait' entry above the on-site price — buy at the ticket booth when you can.

Practical info
From Lauterbrunnen railway station take the PostBus toward Stechelberg (line 141) and get off at the 'Trümmelbachfälle' stop, right opposite the entrance (roughly every 30 minutes, about a 10-minute ride); a large free car park is also available. It opens around early April to early November (Jul–Aug 8:30–18:00, otherwise 9:00–17:00), with adults about CHF 18 and ages 6–15 about CHF 8 — but always confirm current hours and prices on the official website before visiting.
