The Old Town Market Square (Rynek Staromiejski) is the beating heart of Toruń, a medieval trading city that received its urban charter in 1233 and whose almost-square marketplace was fully formed by the mid-13th century. The Old Town lies about 2.3 km from Toruń Główny central station; take bus 22 or 27, or bus line 11 (alight at Plac Rapackiego) for a 5–10 minute ride, or a taxi/Bolt in about 8 minutes — the nearer Toruń Miasto station is another option across the river. The square itself is open 24 hours and free; the Old Town Hall exhibition halls open Tue–Sun 10:00–18:00 (May–Sep) and 10:00–16:00 (Oct–Apr), closed Mondays, while the Town Hall Tower is open daily year-round.
