Overview
Tigre is the gateway town to the Paraná Delta (Delta del Paraná), about 30 km north of Buenos Aires, a unique water world of labyrinthine channels and stilt houses on hundreds of islands. Its Estación Fluvial (river station), with English-style railway architecture, is the hub where collective boats, water taxis and tourist catamarans depart into the delta; together with the neighboring Tigre station on the Mitre line and the Puerto de Frutos market, it makes one of the most popular day trips from the capital. It remains fully active in 2026, but Argentina's currency swings and inflation mean fares change frequently, so carry cash and confirm current prices. Right now it is winter in the Southern Hemisphere — clear skies and few mosquitoes make it a pleasant time to be on the water.

SeasonJuly is Southern-Hemisphere winter: cool with short daylight (but clear skies and few mosquitoes), so bring a warm layer. In summer (Dec–Feb) it is humid with many mosquitoes, so insect repellent is essential.
RulesLoitering, fishing and jumping into the river are forbidden at public island docks, and swimming is allowed only at facilities with lifeguards. You need a SUBE card for the train and collective boats — buy and top it up at a kiosk in the city beforehand.
MannersA tip of about 10% is customary at restaurants and cash is preferred. Many market stalls and some ticket booths do not take cards, and ATM fees for foreign cards are high, so bring plenty of pesos in cash.
