South of downtown Tengchong in Yunnan Province, the Rehai ('Hot Sea') Scenic Area is one of China's most geothermally active volcanic zones, with springs and vents exceeding 90Β°C bubbling up throughout the valley. Its signature spot, Dagunguo, is a roughly 3-meter-wide pool where water churns in a constant, dramatic boil, and vendors nearby actually cook and sell eggs and corn boiled in the spring water. The area sits only about 60 kilometers from the Myanmar border and isn't the easiest to reach, but it's known as a combined volcano-and-hot-spring destination alongside the nearby Tengchong volcanic geopark. Sitting at roughly 1,700 meters elevation, Rehai has cool highland weather that makes outdoor soaking pleasant year-round.
