Overview
A Doric Greek temple built around 440-430 BC, it is considered one of the best-preserved ancient Greek temples anywhere, and the largest in Sicily. It survived largely intact because it was converted into a Christian basilica in the 6th century and sits on a clay layer that cushions earthquakes, leaving all 34 columns standing. In front of it lies Igor Mitoraj's dramatic bronze 'Fallen Icarus', a signature photo spot.

Good to know
SeasonThe site has almost no shade and ridge temperatures can hit 35-40°C in summer. Bring a hat, sunscreen and plenty of water, and avoid the midday hours.
SeasonSeeing the whole park means 4-5 km of walking over 3-4 hours. Early morning, late afternoon, or the summer evening openings (until 10-11pm, Jul-Sep) are the coolest and most comfortable.
RulesPeak-summer time slots (Jun-Aug) can sell out days ahead, so book in advance via an official channel (e.g. CoopCulture). Entry into the temple's interior may run as a separate timed tour with a surcharge paid at the gate.
RulesThis is a protected archaeological park: do not climb on or touch the columns and stones. Drone photography may be restricted, so follow official signage.
CautionNear the entrances and car parks, watch for unofficial 'guides', line-skipping touts, and overpriced vendors (hats, water). Use only the official ticket office and gift shop.
SafetyThe parking areas and shuttle stops are far apart, so keep cameras and bags secured. Paths are stony and sloped, so sturdy, comfortable non-slip shoes are essential.
Practical info
Two entrances (Porta V to the west, Porta Giunone to the east); parking is roughly €5/day max, and the internal electric shuttle is about €3 each way. It's easiest to shuttle to the far end and walk back downhill. Adult tickets are around €10 (EU 18-25 discount; under-18 free). Confirm prices, hours and interior tours on the official channel.
