🇯🇵 Takahama Beach

高浜海水浴場 · 나가사키 고토열도

Location

Overview

On the western coast of Fukue Island in Nagasaki's Goto archipelago, Takahama Beach is one of Japan's most celebrated beaches, honored on both the 'Japan's 100 Best Beaches' and 'Japan's 100 Best Bathing Beaches' lists. Its gently sloping sand entry and striking color gradient — from shallow emerald-green to deep cobalt-blue offshore — make it approachable for beginner snorkelers, who can spot Japanese spiny lobster and various damselfish in the shallows. Typical snorkeling depth runs 1-3m with visibility around 8-15m, and July water temperatures sit near 24-27°C. In 2026 the official swimming season, when the beach house and facilities operate, runs July 18 (Sat) through August 23 (Sun).

Good to know

Practical info

It's about a 40-minute drive from Fukue Airport or Fukue Port; there's no public bus stop nearby, so a rental car is the practical way in. Snorkeling conditions are best June-September, but the official season with beach-house facilities is only Jul 18-Aug 23, 2026 — check current hours, fees and sea conditions with an official local source before you go.
