🇵🇭 Taal Volcano

바탕가스 / 타가이타이 (Batangas / Tagaytay)

Location

Overview

Taal Volcano is an active volcano in Batangas Province on Luzon, Philippines, famous for its 'island within a lake within an island' structure: a volcanic island sits inside a large caldera lake (Taal Lake), and the island itself holds a crater lake. The classic experience is the sweeping view of the lake and volcano from the Tagaytay ridge, making it a popular day trip from Manila. As an active volcano still producing minor eruptions in 2026, landing on Volcano Island and trekking to the crater are currently restricted.

Good to know

Practical info

From Manila (Pasay/Buendia) take a bus to Tagaytay (~2 hours, ~₱100-121), then a tricycle or jeepney to the Talisay boat launch (~30 min). For views only, the Tagaytay ridge viewpoints are enough. Entry fees, boat rates, hours, and whether landing is permitted change with volcanic activity, so verify just before your visit. Bring cash (small peso notes) and be ready to negotiate.
