🇰🇾 Stingray City Sandbar

Stingray City, Grand Cayman · 케이맨제도 그랜드케이맨 노스사운드

Location

Overview

Stingray City Sandbar sits in the sheltered North Sound of Grand Cayman, where the barrier reef flattens the ocean swell and lets you stand in waist-to-chest-deep water (about 1–1.5 m) surrounded by wild southern stingrays. The site began decades ago where fishermen cleaned their catch and rays gathered to feed; today large, habituated rays glide right up to snorkelers hoping for a handout from the guides. The water is warm year-round (27–29°C) and often crystal clear, with visibility from 15 up to 30 m on the best days, making it one of the Caribbean's most famous, family-friendly snorkel encounters — even non-swimmers can join wearing a life vest. As of 2026 it is managed as a designated Wildlife Interaction Zone (WIZ) by the Cayman Islands Department of Environment.
