Opened in the late 1980s as one of China's first-generation theme parks, it is still known for its 'see all of China in a day' concept and for large-scale ethnic song-and-dance productions. As of 2026 it operates normally, rotating seasonal programming such as a spring guochao (national-trend) festival, a summer ethnic carnival and evening 'starlight' events. Treat it as a curated open-air exhibition plus performance venue rather than a heritage site, and budget half a day to a full day.
The density of the miniature zone β Great Wall, Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Terracotta Army and Potala Palace laid out geographically, populated with over 50,000 small ceramic figures that reward close-up looking.
The flagship shows 'Dragon and Phoenix Dance China' and 'Oriental Neon Dress' β large-cast ethnic costume and dance productions that are the main draw for many visitors; some sessions require a separate ticket exchange.

SeasonJuly through September in Shenzhen is hot, humid and strongly UV-exposed, and falls in typhoon and downpour season. Because most of the park is outdoors, midday summer touring is draining. Concentrate on the opening hour or late afternoon into the evening, bring a hat, water and electrolytes, and expect outdoor shows to be cancelled or rescheduled in bad weather.
CautionIgnore individuals offering 'discount tickets' near the metro exit or main gate β invalid or already-scanned QR codes are a known problem. Buy only via the official mini-program or established booking platforms, and confirm the final amount on screen or on a posted price list before paying for costume rental, souvenir photos or in-park food.
MannersPerformers and artisans in the folk villages are people at work. Ask before taking close-up portraits or shooting inside workshops, and avoid flash, tripods and drones during shows β drones are not permitted in the park. Joking or costume-play framing around ethnic-minority dress and customs can land badly with local visitors.
RulesSignature shows run on fixed schedules, and some require a ticket exchange or carry weekend and peak-season surcharges. Grab the day's performance timetable on entry and plan your route backwards from it. Closing times can differ between the miniature zone and the evening program, so confirm the current schedule on site or through official channels.
