The Songyue Pagoda stands at the southern foot of Taishi Mountain in the Songshan range near Dengfeng (Zhengzhou), Henan Province, China. Built around 523 CE during the Northern Wei dynasty, it is the oldest surviving brick pagoda in China, famous for its rare twelve-sided plan and fifteen densely stacked eaves rising about 40 m in a graceful curved silhouette. Its hollow cylindrical interior makes it an early example of tube-structure architecture, and in 2010 it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the Historic Monuments of Dengfeng in 'The Centre of Heaven and Earth.'
