Sixth Street is Austin, Texas's best-known nightlife and live-music strip, running east–west through downtown; it was originally called Pecan Street. SafetyAfter midnight — especially around 2 a.m. closing time — the Dirty Sixth area has seen drunken altercations and occasional violence, including shootings. Stay with your group and take a rideshare (Uber/Lyft) rather than walking back late at night.
