🇹🇼 Shilin Night Market

士林夜市 · 타이베이

Location

Overview

Shilin Night Market (士林夜市) is Taipei's largest and best-known night market, a magnet for Taiwanese street food such as giant fried chicken (jipai), oyster omelets, stinky tofu, and mango shaved ice. Alongside its warren of open-air stalls, an underground food court (美食街) reopened in April 2025 after roughly two years of renovation, offering climate-controlled seating. Because it is so popular with visitors, it is also known for tourist-targeted overcharging, so confirming prices matters.

Practical info

For the shortest walk, get off at MRT Jiantan Station (劍潭站) on the Red Line — NOT the similarly named Shilin Station — about 1–2 minutes from Exit 1. Stalls generally run from ~4 PM to midnight, busiest 7–10 PM. Entry is free; budget roughly NT$300–600 per person to sample a range of dishes. Verify current hours, fees, and food-court details before you go.
