Sesoko Island lies off Motobu in northern Okinawa, linked to the main island by the 762m Sesoko Bridge, so you can drive straight across. Its natural white-sand beach fronts some of Okinawa's clearest water (15–25m visibility), with coral gardens and tropical fish just offshore. The outer-reef points a 5–10 minute boat ride out are a well-known sea-turtle habitat, and turtle-focused snorkel tours are the main draw. Depths run from about 1m in the shallows to 6m at the reef edge, making it beginner-friendly, with summer water around 27–29°C. As of 2026 the beach still operates from late April to mid-October, and a jellyfish net keeps a protected swim zone through summer.

Good to know
SafetyReef currents can form at the reef edge and boat points and pull you offshore quickly. Wear a life vest or float, never snorkel alone, and check your position often so you don't drift out while absorbed in the coral.
SafetyOutside the roped swim zone, boats and banana boats pass through, so stay inside the marked area and buoys. Beginners should go with a guide and be ready for mask fog or panic in open water.
SeasonJune to September (peaking mid-August to September) is habu (box) jellyfish alert season, and their sting is genuinely dangerous. Cover up with a rash guard, swim inside the net, and carry vinegar for first aid.
SeasonSwimming and facilities run late April to mid-October; at low tide the boat departure may shift to Anchi Beach under the Sesoko Bridge. Winter water drops to about 22°C.
RulesDon't touch or stand on coral or marine life — coral dies from contact, and you risk stings from stonefish, fire coral and sea urchins. Reef-safe sunscreen is encouraged.
MannersIf you meet a sea turtle, keep at least 1–2m away, don't touch or feed it, and don't block its path. No flash photography.
Practical info
About a 90-minute drive from Naha Airport (expressway to Kyoda IC, then Routes 58 and 449 over the Sesoko Bridge). Beachfront parking, hot showers and gear rental are paid, and boat tours run roughly April–October. Fees, hours and the swim season change year to year, so confirm the latest before you go.
