Seomun Market in central Daegu (Jung-gu) is the city's largest traditional market and one of the three great markets of the Joseon dynasty, having stood on its present site for over a century as a hub of the textile and fabric trade. Roughly 4,000 shops spread across six districts, and since the night market opened in June 2016 the site has become one of Daegu's signature attractions - shopping by day, street food by night.

SeasonThe night market typically runs only from late March through December and closes in winter (roughly late December to mid-March). In 2026 it opened on March 27, so for a winter visit plan around the daytime market and check the latest night-market status first.
RulesThe night market runs on fixed days and hours (generally Fri-Sat 19:00-23:30, Sun 19:00-22:30). The daytime market is open daily around 09:00-18:00, but many shops close on the 1st and 3rd Sundays each month, so confirm the latest opening days before you go.
SafetyThe market has had major fires in the past (1967, 2005, 2016), largely from aging electrical systems, and smaller fires still occur occasionally. With narrow aisles and many open-flame food stalls, note the exits and stay mindful of safety when it is crowded.
SafetyEvenings get very crowded and aisles are packed. Keep your wallet and phone in front pockets or a zipped bag, and keep children and strollers close so you don't get separated in the crush.
MannersNight-market stalls have limited seating and quick turnover. Don't linger long at a spot once you've eaten, and note that popular dishes can sell out early, so arriving right at opening (19:00-20:00) is best.
