Saryeoni Forest Path is one of Jeju's most beloved forest-walking trails, running about 15 km through the mid-mountain highlands of Hallasan at an average elevation of roughly 550 m. Winding through towering Japanese cedar mixed with oak, hornbeam and cypress, it lies within a UNESCO-designated Jeju Biosphere Reserve, and the name 'Saryeoni' is said to mean 'sacred place.' The terrain is gentle and well maintained, making it an easy, restorative walk suitable for families and less experienced hikers.

RulesAdmission and parking are free and most of the trail needs no reservation, but the opening window (roughly 09:00-17:00) and the daily last-entry cutoff (which differs by season) can change; confirm the latest details before you go.
RulesMulchat Oreum is normally closed under a nature-rest program and can only be hiked, by advance capacity-limited reservation, during the brief annual 'Saryeoni Forest Eco-Healing' event. Check current announcements for how to book.
SeasonFor safety the trail is often closed on rainy days and for about two days after rain, and heavy snow can also close it. In winter bring crampons and warm clothing for icy, snowy ground.
SafetyAs a dense forest, ticks and snakes (such as the local pit viper) may be present; wear long sleeves and ankle-covering shoes and stay strictly on the marked path.
SafetyThe full route is up to 15 km with almost no shops or facilities en route, so carry your own water and snacks and start early enough to finish before the entry cutoff (a round trip can take 2-4+ hours).
MannersBecause it is a biosphere reserve, cooking, smoking and pets are restricted; avoid damaging vegetation, keep noise down and pack out all trash to protect the site.
Practical info
Bus 232 reaches the area and stops at both the 'Saryeoni Forest' (Bijarim-ro) and 'Namjo-ro Saryeoni Forest' (Bulgeun Oreum) stops; by car the Bulgeun Oreum (Namjo-ro) entrance parking is the most convenient. The two entrances are far apart, so plan return transport in advance if walking one-way, and verify exact hours, closures and event dates via official channels before visiting.
